RULES AND PLAYING CONDITIONS

1. The competition shall be called the Bobby Smithson Northumberland County Cup and shall be supported by The Northumberland Cricket Board.

2. The competition shall be run by a Management Committee  consisting of officials appointed by Benwell Hill Cricket Club.

3. The competition shall be open to all clubs who play cricket and/or are based within the geographical borders of the county of Northumberland.

4.The entry fee for the competition shall be included within the affiliation fee for those clubs affiliated to the Northumberland Cricket Board and the sum of £10 to those clubs who are not affiliated.

5. Each game within the competition shall be played in midweek, commencing no later than 6pm and shall consist of 20 overs side.

6. The final of the competition shall be played at Benwell Hill Cricket Club

7. No bowler may bowl more than 5 overs in any one innings.

8. The side drawn at home shall be responsible for arranging the fixture and shall offer the away side a minimum of 2 midweek dates.

9. The home side shall be responsible for arranging 2 neutral umpires for each fixture with the exception of the final tie when umpires will be appointed by the Management Committee.

10. All fixtures shall be completed by the dates specified at the time of the draw and failure to do so will result in the defaulting side being expelled from the competition by the Management Committee.

11. Each club shall be allowed to play one professional in each fixture and Durham County contracted players shall be ineligible.

12. In the event of the scores being level, the side that has lost the least number of wickets shall be declared the winners. In the event of the number of wickets lost being equal, the side who has scored the most number of runs at the end of the 10th over of its innings shall be declared the winner irrespective of the number of wickets lost at that time. In the event of this being equal, the tie shall be replayed at the ground of the away team.

13. ECB guidance shall be adopted regarding a wide delivery

14. Each team shall provide its own Grade A quartered ball to the satisfaction of the umpires

15. Any player arriving after 10 overs of the first innings have been completed shall only be allowed to participate in the capacity of substitute fielder

16. At the point of delivery a minimum of 4 fielders ( plus the bowler and wicket-keeper) must be in an area bounded by 2 semi-circles each centred on middle stump with a radius of 30 yards and joined by a parallel line on each side of the pitch. In the event of infringement a no ball shall be called. The fielding circle shall be marked by white painted dots at 5 yard intervals.

17. Umpires shall be paid a fee of £8  together with expenses of 20p per mile

18. The winning side shall be responsible for reporting the result of the fixture within 48 hours to bhcc@blueyonder.co.uk
